Sex, Drugs, and… Formerly Rock and Roll?

I was watching a movie last night and as the opening credits rolled a song started up.  There was something very familiar about it, but I couldn’t place it, and it wasn’t anything I would normally listen to without a particular reason.  Soon I discovered that I knew the song very well.  I’ve heard it for years upon years, however not done this way, or sung by this completely different band.  Given the context of the movie even in as little as I had seen of it at this point the whole experience was trippy to say the least.

I am not a big fan, or even a slight fan, of people doing a cover song and slowing the pace down.  It drives me right batty generally.  I do like alternate versions, even vastly different ones, but not just when they slow it down, like they don’t have the chops to do it right.  This song, in this movie, was very different, and it was slower paced, but it didn’t bother me.  It’s pretty cool actually, except for one thing, it sounds an awful lot like another slowed down song, done by a different band, and covered by yet a different band than any of the other three.
